Federal Statistical Office on forest damage: “Cutting of damaged wood due to insect infestation has increased more than tenfold within five years”.

Due to the heat and drought of the past summers, pests such as the bark beetle were able to spread massively in the weakened forests. The Federal Statistical Office now presents dramatic figures: Last year, almost 43.3 million cubic meters of a total of around 60.1 million cubic meters of damaged wood were due to insect damage. By comparison, the amount of damaged wood registered was only 3.3 million cubic meters in 2015 and 12.9 million cubic meters in 2020.
