Amoghavarsha JS and Kannada Language School Germany visit bayklif
On 7 June 2025 the office of the Bavarian Climate Research Network bayklif welcomed the acclaimed filmmaker, wildlife photographer and conservationist Amoghavarsha JS from Karnataka, India, for a lecture in the Römerforum of the BioSysM building on the Martinsried campus. Organised in close cooperation with the Kannada School Germany, represented by Ms Rashmi Nagaraj, the event gave around 100 children and parents an impressive first-hand glimpse of India’s extraordinary flora and fauna.
„The environment and nature don’t have political borders.“ – Amoghavarsha JS
Amoghavarsha urged deeper international collaboration and pointed to the partnership between the federal states of Bavaria and Karnataka, first established in 2007 and reinforced by a new Memorandum of Understanding in April 2025.
“Good photos and films can change the world.” — Dr Ulrike Kaltenhauser, Managing Director of bayklif
„Make wildlife for the common people.“ – Sir David Attenborough, Voice of Wild Karnataka
Amoghavarsha is regarded as one of South Asia’s leading nature filmmakers. His 4K feature documentary “Wild Karnataka”, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, was screened at the UN Headquarters in New York and won two National Film Awards in 2021. The 2022 docudrama “Gandhada Gudi” captivated hundreds of thousands of cinema-goers and sparked statewide tree-planting campaigns. As art director of the album “Divine Tides” he contributed to two Grammy wins and, in 2020, was appointed Canon EOS Ambassador. Across all projects his goal remains constant: turning encounters with rare wildlife into compelling stories that inspire action.
Amoghavarsha took his time to sign autographs for the young fans; his impressive films and photographs helped inspire a generation of young Indians
Reflecting on Bavaria, he noted that scientific insights gain real power only when images reach people’s hearts—a sentiment echoing Sir David Attenborough’s call to make wildlife accessible to everyone.
The bayklif office thanks the Kannada School Germany, especially Ms Nagaraj and her professional team, for their seamless organisation, and Amoghavarsha J S for his inspiring contribution. We look forward to continued German-Indian cooperation, particularly under the Bavaria-Karnataka partnership, further interlinking science, education and conservation.
